Speed Debating in ELA Class
Mrs. Barry’s ELA classes at Messalonskee Middle School have been working on argument writing. In order to prepare for both sides of an argument, students participated in “Speed Debating.” They were asked to debate topics in thirty-second rounds with a fifteen second rebuttal – while switching debate partners and topics every two minutes. The task was fun and engaging, and it challenged students as they had to take positions that were opposite of how they really felt about certain topics. #WeAreRSU18
