Meet Sam Dunbar, Assistant Principal of MMS
Meet Sam Dunbar, Assistant Principal of Messalonskee Middle School!
What are you most looking forward to about this upcoming school year?
In taking on a new role this year (although I had been an Assistant Principal for six years before), I am looking forward to working closely with students and families to continue the growth necessary for a productive home to school relationship. Learning doesn’t happen in isolation, and I look forward to working through challenges with students to keep them learning and growing.
What’s your favorite thing to do over the summer?
My favorite thing to do in any season (summer is no different) is watch my two kids do the things they love to do. I love pulling up a chair at the field to watch my kids play baseball, lacrosse, football, and field hockey. Nothing better than to see them improve and their confidence build.
Tell us about your family!
I live in Belgrade with my wife (who is the librarian at Durham Community School), two children, and our dog.
What is one thing you’d like to share with the students of your school building?
I am ready to work in my new role and to continue the productive relationships we’ve formed and will form. Each year I am so proud of the hard work and perseverance I see in all facets of school. Please take a moment to appreciate where you are and to identify areas for growth. We are here to help you achieve those goals. Don’t be afraid to ask for help; it’s why we’re here.
What is your favorite thing about being part of RSU 18?
Personally, I love being a part of RSU 18 because this is my home. It is a cool experience to see our students in various environments over the years and to see them grow and find success.
If you weren’t involved in the profession of education, what would we find you doing?
Being involved in education is what I am meant to do. However, if the role of General Manager of the Boston Red Sox was offered to me, I don’t think I could turn it down. I love the idea of working to put the best team on the field. I think we have done that at MMS as I am very proud of the team we have.
